I started training with Flipping Fit in October 2015, after starting group gymnastics classes as a complete beginner 9 months earlier. I started with the plan to do 5 sessions to accelerate my progress toward a backflip; nearly 2 years later I'm still hooked and looking forward to my next weekly session. Through my sessions with Flipping Fit I have been able to work toward many 'dream' skills including front and back somersaults and aerial cartwheels.
Ally's targeted drills and corrections allow even a total beginner such as myself to progress in skill level, fitness and confidence. Her approach is always positive and supportive and I have yet to find the physical or mental block that Ally can't help me work through.
I started training with Ally in January 2015, and I am amazed at what I have achieved in such a short amount of time. Having only started gymnastics in my thirties, I always thought I was too old to be able to do things like backflips and aerials, but with Ally's guidance I have achieved these skills and much more.
Ally is incredibly patient and individually tailors her approach to each client. Ally is a wealth of knowledge; she explains things thoroughly and breaks down each skill into smaller drills that help develop the required strength, coordination and technique. This approach has really helped me to understand each skill and work step by step to achieve my goals.
What I love most about Ally is her positivity and encouragement - she is genuinely thrilled for you when you make progress, which subsequently gives you an "I can do this" attitude and drives you to perform beyond what you ever imagined possible.
I feel so fortunate that I discovered Ally and can't recommend Flipping Fit highly enough.
I started dancing when I was just 4 years old. At 12, I was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) on a full dance scholarship. I had always had a problem with being upside-down, even being horizontal while swimming was a struggle for me as a kid. At VCASS we had acrobatic classes as part of our dance curriculum, the thought of which was my absolute worst fear. In my first class I burst into tears trying to do a cartwheel. It felt like it was impossible. I pushed through and kept on trying every week in class however it wasn't quite enough for me. This was when I first met Ally. Immediately I felt safe training with her. She explained everything in such a way that I allowed myself to face my fears, knowing she would never put me in any danger.
It wasn't long before cartwheels were a walk in the park and I was ready to learn more advanced skills. As an aspiring dancer, it's an essential to have as many tricks up your sleeve and be as versatile as possible. She covered all the basic gymnastic skills I had never been able to even attempt such as forward rolls and handstands before moving onto round-offs, handsprings and walkovers. Ally guided me through every step of learning these new skills, all of which still absolutely terrified me at first. Ally seemed to find a way around those mental barriers and through different stages of doing skills spotted to executing them all by myself on floor, I kept on progressing further and further. I then made aerial cartwheel's (no handed cartwheel) my focus - a long way from the boy who a few years earlier cried at the thought of doing a normal two-handed cartwheel. It took a lot of hard work and persistence, like with every other skill I had learnt with Ally she knew not only how to spot and support me while attempting these skills for the first time - she knew how to breakdown and explain every milli-second of the skills.
I got my aerial cartwheel and since then have used them in almost every dance audition I've done. We progressed onto front walkover aerials and round-off backflips which today I can do by myself on floor. I went onto study performing arts full time while continuing my training with Ally perfecting my skills and keeping my confidence levels with advanced skills high. At 19, I was cast in the show 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!' which I have toured with all around Australia for the last year.
Now at 20, I still go and train with Ally whenever I am in Melbourne. I still have some fear when it comes to learning new skills however with Ally who knows and can explain every technical element of a particular skill, I continue to be motivated to push myself and achieve my future gymnastic goals. Being able to do acrobatics gives me a massive advantage when it comes to getting a job and I have Ally to thank for that.
I have been training with Ally since 2008 on a weekly basis, having had no prior experience in gymnastics, and I am extremely proud of what I have achieved with her so far. From beginning with little upper body strength and a limited ability I am now refining my standing backflips, backtucks, handsprings, backflips into backtucks and more all of which I dreamed of doing for so long and finally can say I've achieved. My core strength has improved 10 fold and Ally is great at making sure you master the basics of gymnastics before progressing to the more complicated moves. I have found it very easy to take each step because Ally really breaks everything down and makes the whole process less daunting.
Not only is Ally a great coach but I've found her to be so caring and easy to get along with, she has been just as excited as me when I have progressed which has made her more than "just a coach" to me.
I would highly recommend Ally (and often do) as a gymnastics coach to anyone wishing to improve in such an intricate sport.
